Win & Give campaign

My son is a second grader this year and is preparing to make his First Communion. They have a number of activities that they have been doing this year as they prepare for their First Communion. One activity they have been assigned is to complete extra chores to earn some extra money. As a class, they will collect this money and use it to help provide food to those that do not have enough to eat. He has come home a few times with questions, such as do you think that we could feed someone with just a few dollars and then usually has some sort of trivia about what can be done with seemingly so little. I think that it is good that he is gaining an awareness now of how he can help others and make a difference for other children. And, also he is learning that you don't have to do something big to make a difference, even the little things can help.

Did you know that 83 percent of kids believe that they can help children in other countries in addition to people in their own communities? That’s according to the "Kids' Altruism Indicator," conducted in partnership with Parenting magazine.

Now through May, the “Win & Give” campaign provides as easy way for kids to give back. I like to keep fruit snacks on hand. They are an easy snack that I can keep in my purse for those times where the kids need a snack while we are out. In fact, I picked up a specially marked box of Betty Crocker Fruit Snacks this weekend. I was hopeful to find an instant win certificate inside, but there wasn't one.
