Last week, since I was traveling over the weekend, I didn't do any shopping and I didn't plan the menu. Now, first I must say that even when I plan a menu I sometimes get that "what should we have" feeling - sometimes Thursday comes and you just aren't up for what you planned. But, when I don't plan at all, I feel overwhelmed with the "what should we have" feeling. Last week was awful. We had breakfast for dinner more than once - one time was good old cold cereal and milk, the other was scrambled eggs and sausage. On Friday night, I just gave up trying and we ate out.
This week, I backwards planned. I proposed ideas for Sunday's dinner as we drove home from the baseball game and as each idea was dismissed, I placed it later in the week - now that's not to suggest that we have a week full of reject meals, just that none of them felt right for Sunday. That being said, we had a bit of a finger food/montage of foods for dinner on Sunday. We had to stop at the store to get some ingredients for the meals that I had planned and were looking for inspiration. It became some cheese and crackers, some Bruschetta and baguette, and some chicken from the prepared food section. The shopping trip was overall less than stellar for savings - I hadn't planned to stop, had no coupons and didn't look at the ad - but it accomplished the goal of stocking us for this week's meals.
There is only one meal with turkey in it this week and that is the taco meat on Monday.
