Hormel & Dinty Moore
Do you know who is celebrating their 75th anniversary this year?
From food to flight, 1935 was a year for legends: Monopoly debuted. Elvis Presley was born. And two iconic cans appeared on store shelves: Dinty Moore® products and Hormel® chili.
When I think of Hormel and Dinty Moore, I think of comfort food. Chili, Beef Stew, Chicken and Dumplings. Yum!
I think one of my favorite items is their Chicken and Dumplings. I like that it is available in a convenient, single-serve, microwave container - which allows me an option to have some nice warm comfort food at work for lunch. I pack that, along with two slices of white bread (whole grain, of course) and a small amount of butter.
One of my favorite dips for tortilla chips is their Chili Cheese Dip. I love that their Chili is available without beans (I'm not a bean eater!). The directions for the recipe are for preparing it on the stove top, but I tend to make it in a small crock-pot when I make it - I find that it works better for parties and carry-ins.
Chili Cheese Dip
1 (15-ounce) can Hormel® Chili No Beans
1 (16-ounce) package pasteurized prepared Cheddar cheese product, cut into cubes
Directions
In large saucepan, combine chili and cheese. Heat over low heat, stirring frequently, until cheese is melted and chili mixture is hot and bubbly. Serve with corn chips.
Another recipe that the company shared with me was featured on a 1976 label. It is called Cowboy Stew (also called Beef Stew Bonanza)
1 (40-ounce) can Dinty Moore® beef stew
3 (15-ounce) cans Hormel® chili with beans
In large pot over medium heat, combine stew and chili. Heat just until boiling, stirring occasionally. Serves 10.
I think it sounds very interesting, but I would want to make it using the chili without the beans.

ReplyDeleteI spread a layer of cream cheese in a baking dish. I put a can of their chili with beans and top it with cheddar cheese. I bake it at 350 until it's all melty. It's SOOOO good!

Dinty Moore beef stew

Love the DM Beef Stew. My mother used to buy it when I was little and it seemed so rich in comparison to campbells condensed beef soup. I think DM may have been the original ready to eat thick and rich stew. Then Campbells came out with theirs 'so rich you can eat it with your fork'.

I use their chili in queso! Melt velveeta in a crockpot, add a can of chili, stir, and serve with chips!
