This week we did our shopping early. We had company for the weekend, so we headed out to get the ingredients for dinner and stuff to get all of us through the weekend on Friday night. Then, I stopped at Target on Saturday to the get the Special K deal and some snacks/beverages.
Last week, I didn't plan because we had been in Canada over the weekend. I never did get to the grocery store, having my husband stop in once to pick up milk while he was out. We ate a lot of "whatever you can find". It really is not a good thing. It brought me back to the days when I didn't menu plan. The horrible question by phone or e-mail to my husband mid-afternoon, what should we do for dinner? Neither of us ever having an idea or suggestion. The options we come up with, trying to eat what we have and not have to defrost anything, were something less than stellar in overall quality of the meal or variety. If nothing else the struggle last week reinforced the need to plan out the menu each week. We may not eat everything exactly as planned, but we do most of the time and it makes life a lot simpler.
At our house, the only meal we normally have together is dinner, so it is the focus for us.

Weekdays breakfast is at daycare for my daughter, the rest of us eat cold cereal, frozen waffles, oatmeal, toast or whatever strikes our fancy. Lunch we pack, usually leftovers for me. My son either packs or buys lunch at school. If he packs, it is generally a lunch meat sandwich or a PB&J with some sides.
