Tried It Tuesday - Fiber One Chewy Bars

The first Fiber One chewy bar that I tried was as a free sample. I was a little bit skeptical at first, I wondered, with the word Fiber in the name would it taste a little like cardboard? Of course the flavor included the word Chocolate, so I figured it was worth a try. I must say, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the bar was not at all what I expected, it was tasty and reasonably moist (although, as I haven't always rotated my stock well, I can tell you that they do get drier when they get older).

As a non-nut consumer (no allergies, just a personal preference), it was refreshing to find so many options that weren't nut based in a healthy, granola style bar. Now, there is peanut flour, almond flour, sunflower meal, and such in there, so they certainly aren't allergen free, but they are near the bottom of the list of ingredients, providing little hint of their presence in the taste. I also like that I don't see Aspartame or Sucralose in the ingredient list, as I am not a fan of artificial sweeteners. The bars are still only around 140 calories each. Each bar contains 9g of fiber (35% of the daily recommended fiber for a 2,000 calorie diet), 2g of Protein and is a good source of calcium.

My favorite variety is the Oats & Chocolate, followed closely by the Oats & Caramel. The other varieties that I have tried and enjoy are Oats & Apple Streusel and Chocolate Mocha. Not being a big coffee drinker, I have to be in the right mood to enjoy the Chocolate Mocha, as it has a definite coffee flavor to it. The other two varieties that I haven't tried and don't plan to, but are probably equally tasty (if you are good with almonds and peanut butter) are Oats & Strawberry with Almonds and Oats & Peanut Butter.

You can head over to the Fiber One site to learn more about the benefits of fiber in your diet. I will warn you that if you are not a regular consumer of fiber that the first few bars can be a little bit rough on your digestive system, as your body isn't used to that fiber load. Just make sure that you are drinking plenty of water through out the day, "your body needs more water to help process the added fiber you eat."

You may want to put a link in your post to the fiber-one bar site since there are many sites that say fiber one.
